Short-video content has been extremely popular on social media and is continuing to become more prevalent. They can be a fun & engaging way to interact with your followers through your social channels and provide an alternative to photos/text.
These vertical videos are now everywhere: in the form of Tiktoks, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and finally, Facebook Reels.
Yes, that is right! Users have been able to upload and view Facebook Reels for some time now. In fact, since February 22, 2022, Facebook Reels have been available in more than 150 countries worldwide.
Facebook is one of the biggest social media sites in the world. With nearly 3 billion monthly active users, it is a great place to reach your target audience.
Reels allow you to take advantage of this user base and reach far from your usual audience and followers. This means a great deal to businesses and brands looking to grow and showcase their products or services to new potential clients.
Facebook Reels are available to everyone. But it’s a bit more complicated than you think.
While everyone can browse through FB Reels practically from everywhere, posting new content is limited, to say the least.
Posting Facebook Reels is restricted only to the Facebook mobile app available on iOS and Android. That means if you usually use your Desktop device to post content on Facebook, you might have to switch to your smartphone for Reels.
Even then, the upload process is quite basic. Too basic, if you ask us. After selecting/creating your video content, you can only add a simple description and hashtags to the Reel and hit upload.
Reels have become the main content type on Instagram, and the uploading process is much more detailed on IG. Developing Reels on Facebook the same way as on Instagram might bring these two major social media platforms dangerously close regarding shared content. Meta might risk confusing users on the distinctions these two platforms really have. – If they haven’t done that yet.
Thanks to new Facebook API changes, FB Reels can now be published automatically through Publer!
The process is quite similar to IG Reels and actually simpler. Instead of selecting the “Post” tab, you head to the “Reel” section. You upload your media, enter your description & hashtags, and hit “Schedule.”
To make sure everything is as you want it to be, we’ve thought of an easy way for you to preview your content.
Through a click of a button, you can see a live preview of your Reel’s appearance before it is published. This way you can make sure you don’t miss even the smallest imperfection.
Because of the nature of Reels, before posting, you need to make sure your content has a 9:16 aspect ratio and a resolution of 500 x 888 pixels. But even if you cannot crop your content to the required ratio & size, don’t worry: Publer’s got you covered.
Using a simple black background, we automatically turn the video you upload to the required ratio & resolution. This means your content won’t crop, and you will still be able to upload directly to Facebook Reels.
Keep in mind that Facebook Reels don’t have the luxury of space and styling in their descriptions like other posts do.
The published Reel might end up with a not-so-visually pleasing description text that depending on the number of characters, will look crammed and a mess overall. So keep your descriptive text short and to the point. Make sure whatever you decide to write is SEO-optimised and paired with relevant hashtags.
